We are so excited to bring back our sixth annual North Korean Dialect Singing Competition!
Many North Koreans say that the hardest part of adjusting to the South was adjusting to the language. Although we still speak the same language, North Koreans use a different dialect that makes them stand out, often to their discomfort, and also makes it more difficult to secure certain jobs.
Through our singing competition, Saejowi brings together both North and South Korean singers to celebrate the rich flavor of the unique North Korean dialect rather than scorn it as somehow lesser. People take turns singing popular South Korean songs in the North Korean dialect. Anyone who loves to make music is encouraged to apply! Prelims will be held at Saejowi, and finals on the third floor of Ferrum Tower.
