Survey Results: “when can the unification of the two Koreas be achieved?”

Saejowi conducted a survey among attendees of the Unification Festival at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul—held on May 26th and 27th—prompting the question “When can the unification of the two Koreas be achieved?”

Among the 1066 subjects, 62.8% responded that they believed unification could happen within the next 10 years. Specifically, 37.3% responded within five years, and 25.5% within six to 10 years.

About the results, Executive Director of Saejowi, Dr. Shin, expressed that “Despite North Korea’s nuclear and missile provocation… It is eye-catching that participating citizens, including young people and students, showed hope and high expectations for unification.”

Saejowi intern Yoonie Yang, who helped compile the data, shared that “I’m pretty surprised about how soon people expect reunification to happen! In the last couple of years, political polarization has been at its most extreme high around the world... I am very hopeful for this timely reunification, and am curious about how it can happen in a way that is peaceful for everyone.”

This event was organized by the Ministry of Unification, designed to raise people’s interest in unification, featuring performances and exhibitions.
