'Memories of Jagang Province' Play
JULY 16 — Saejowi hosted a joint play and lecture at Wabu High School. ‘Memories of Jagang Province’ is a play depicting the resettlement process of North Korean refugees. Over 450 student attendees had the opportunity to learn about the plight of North Korean refugees and the physical and emotional struggles surrounding resettlement.
Scholarship Award Ceremony
JULY 24 — Saejowi partnered with the Community Chest of Korea to award $10,000 in scholarship grants to North Korean refugees currently enrolled in South Korean universities. 10 individuals were selected from over 80 applicants. Funds will go toward covering refugees’ tuition costs, textbooks, school supplies, and living expenses.
Ewha University Guest Lecture
JULY 18 — Saejowi and the Council for Reunification Education hosted a guest lecture and group discussion for North Korean refugees. Professor Kim Suk-hyang of Ewha Women’s University was invited to lecture on the differences in North and South Korean women’s lifestyles, putting a particular emphasis on gender roles, childrearing, and employment.
